Sunset Mountain, ID | June 2016

Summit:
W7I/BC-062

This was my second activation of Sunset Mountain.  The first activation was with K7ZO when we did a triple with 2 other summits to the NW.  See that trip report here:  Sunset Mountain 2015.  This activation was a double with the unactivated Peak 7460.  See the full trip report here:  Peak 7460

Mores Mountain, ID | July 2016

Summit:
W7I/BC-070

This was my second activation of Mores Mountain.  This Mountain makes for a nice double with Shafer Butte.  See our (w/K7ZO) previous trip report for more information.  Parking at the forest service picnic ground at the saddle between the two summits makes a nice base camp for restocking or having lunch before/after the activations.  Note there is a $5 per car self-pay to drive into the picnic area.  Picnic tables and pit toilets along with the central location

Peak 7460, ID | June 2016

Summit:
W7I/BC-068

During my first activation of Sunset Mountain (2015), I spied Peak 7460 down the Hungarian Ridge trail leading from the summit of Sunset Peak.  An out and back activation was realized in 2016.  It didn't see like it was going to be a big deal hiking down from Sunset peak and then back up to Peak 7460, but it turned out to be quite the effort!  6.2 miles round trip and 2410ft of climbing.

Granite Mountain, ID | July 2016

Summit:
W7I/SR-038

This was my second activation of Granite Mountain which is NW of McCall Idaho.  Although strenuous due to a consistently steep grade, the views from the summit are spectacular.  Granite Mountain has a twin summit.  The trail will take you to the south summit with the fire lookout tower.  This is not the SOTA summit, but is well worth a few extra steps to get the view off the south side.  After a quick visit to the fire lookout, turn back to the north and you will see the slightly higher SOTA summit a short distance away.

Boulder Mountain, ID | July 2016

Summit:
W7I/VC-110

Boulder Mountain is one of prominent mountains to the East of McCall Idaho.  It is just north of the very recognizable Jughandle Mountain.  Boulder Reservoir, Boulder lake and Louie Lake (at the base of Jughandle Mountain) are fairly popular summer day hikes in the McCall Area.  Boulder Mountain itself is probably rarely visited as it quite a bit farther than the popular lake destinations.

(No Access) Gold Hill, OR

Summit:
W7O/NE-158

This summit is right across from the Cement Plant off Hwy I-84 between Baker City, OR and Farewell Bend, OR.  Looked like a nice option for a quick activation when traveling Hwy I-84.  However, the obvious road to the top was chained with a sign stating permission required.  No contact info, so must be locals wanting to keep people off the land.  There is also a radio facility near the top, so the chain and sign keep people away from that area as well.

Lucky Peak, ID | May 2016

Summit:
W7I/SR-124

This was my second activation of Lucky Peak.  Always a good hike to test your fitness level.  There are a few options to get to the top.  The route we took was 11.2 miles and 3089 feet of climbing.  See my previous report for more information.  Lucky Peak 2015:  http:/www.pnwsota.org/node/556 .  You can also drive to nearly the top if you want a shorter hike.  The road up (from Hwy 21) is best with a SUV or high clearance vehicle.  There is a small parking lot and bathroom at the end of the road.

Peak 7057, ID | June 2016

Summit:
W7I/BC-074

Peak 7057 is the first peak along the FS374 ridgeline north of the Harris Creek Summit.  The second peak is Hawley Mountain (W7I/BC-069). Harris Creek Summit (saddle) can be reached from Harris Creek Rd. which connects Horseshoe Bend and Placerville, Idaho.  It is a dirt road in good condition.  From Harris Creek summit, FS374 is a resonably good single track road.

From Harris Creek summit, FS374 is a resonably good single track road.  SUV or other high clearance vehicle recommmended, but I did see a sedan parked at the base of Peak 7057!  Minor rocks and ruts along the road so should be passable by most cars/trucks depending on your level of scraping desired.

Wind Mountain, WA | August 2015

Summit:
W7W/LC-146

Wind Mountain is a great hike with fantastic views near Hood River Oregon.  It is on the Washington State side of the river so your will need to cross the toll bridge to the Washington side if you are coming from Hood River, OR.

The toll is $1 I think and is well worth the price of admission for Wind Mountain.  You will pass the parking for Dog Mtn on the way to Wind Mtn if coming from Hood River.  Dog Mtn is another popular hike to a SOTA summit.
