Hershberger is a lovely little lookout with a great 360 view, Crater Rim, Rabbit Ears, etc. I went when it was very hot, after I did a difficult hike up Weaver Mountain. The lookout is just in the AZ and I took advantage of a bit of shelter from the sun and the rails to erect my mast. Poor data service at the LO but I think I had service if I walked a little ways away from it.
If you have good clearance you can drive up to a small parkiing area and the end ascent is basically stairs on the rock up to the lookout. THere is also a wide open area to activate closer to the true summit but it was too hot for me to operate there.
Decent road going up most of the way. From 230 turn on 6515/6510 (42.93271, -122.42233) , if googling, google Rabbit Ears to get headed in correct direction. After you pass Rabbit Ears a ways you will turn right on RD 530, Herschberger LO Rd. There is a gate but it was open when I went. After this turn the road gets a bit rough but not horrible. Mainly just tall/deep water bars, especially up to the Lookout. de AG7GP
