Don't know - FS 2154 offers good parking 0.36 miles east of the summit (spur 175 is closed). The roads from the north, off FS 21, were generally well-maintained with many options for rerouting. A two-wheel drive vehicle would likely have no issue in dry conditions.
- Moderate bushwhack to summit along the east ridge with 462 ft of elevation gain.
- Mosquitos are intense—head net strongly advised.
- Summit consists of a rocky spine with one tree for shade. Options for antenna setups are limited.
- This summit pairs well with McGowan Mountain (W7O/CS-071), 10 miles away. Both can be done in one day.
- I stayed at Indigo Creek Campground and highly recommend it. It has three tent-only sites, no reservations, and is lightly used. It sits at 3000 ft. and can be accessed via paved road (FS 21). The spring comes straight out of Bear mountain in the form of a gushing creek. There are several other campgrounds in the area, and numerous open spaces for dispersed camping.
- I saw three black bears during my three days of activity in this area, so bear spray would be a good idea.
