Quick update for this semi-popular summit. If you need directions, see WTA... it's very easy to get to.
The road: it's not terrible but I'd recommend a Subaru or better. There are a couple bad spots where high clearence is helpful.
The summit was BUGGY today. I had to wear my rain gear, head net, Deet... was sitting in a massive swarm, sweating. They still managed to bite me. It was hot and muggy, and quite a bit of smoke from the fires in EWA in the air. Views were still very nice despite the smoke.
Cell service was very decent for me (AT&T). No problem at all - was able to send and receive spots. Didn't try APRS.
The lookout was closed up. I set up HF just down from the lookout so that I was not in the way of other visitors. I mostly had the summit to myself for 2 hours. On the way down there were quite a few people headed up, but it was a Saturday so this is to be expected. Hit it very early or else mid-week.
I posted pictures on Instagram, just look under #wu7h. Filled up many pages of my log with S2S, including some locals (thanks James and David). I didn't make much effort with 2m because HF was HOT, but I did work a few folks. All in all a great day on the mountain!
