Recently got into amateur radio, looking to meet other hams and learn a lot more.
Just getting into other activities in amateur radio. I havent had the opportunity to participate in sota, but im looking forward to trying.
Seattle resident, hiker, mountain biker, basic outdoor guy.
I'm new ham radio and was looking for a way to incorporate it into outdoor activities. I thought SOTA would be kind cool. Never done it though.
back to ham radio after 20 years qrt. sota looks intresting
chase and activate, currently have ic706, considering ic 705. did a lot of mountain topping in so cal... grew up in omak wa, lot of summits have not been activated in that area. i am a descendant so will have access to Colville tribal land. my moms house was built by mr vanbrunt, 2 miles from van brunt mountain ok-177. I used to snowmobile to Omak mountain ok-149 and spent a summer in the lookout tower. looks intresting always fun to be dx. i enjoy building gear and hiking more than rag chewing. planning to hammock camp the area anyway.
I’m in Lewis County WA and like QRP and off-roading with a touch of hiking
I wanted to explore the idea of low power operation and new antenna ideas.
I’ve not been involved in SOTA before. I plant to use an MFJ 144mhz SSB radio and also
Ic 706. I have an arrow 4 element Yagi for 2m and for HF
I’ll use an EFHW with an ATU-100.
Basic but it should get me started.
Ham radio NewBee
Why do you climb a mountain? To Ham it UP.
Summits on the Air
Operating in the NW Pacific. Love to hike/bike.
FM VHF would be my first (easy) choice with my VX-119. At the moment, what I have is an FT991 for SSB/digital/CW. Don't plan on carrying that one anywhere!
I'm the new guy! New ham here and new to sota. I think I will enjoy the challenge as I am a avid outdoorsman.
Pretty new but I think I will enjoy activating more then chasing. Adventure is my middle name!
New ham with technician license in 2020, so I've been learning the ropes with VHF/UHF FM and DMR. I spend a lot of time in the outdoors, camping, hiking and skiing, thus my interest in SOTA. I plan to take the General exam at some point in 2021, so I can start exploring HF. Professionally, I'm involved in aviation, selling and flying private aircraft.
None yet! I'm as green as the grass at this point in my SOTA career. My goal is to begin activating summits around the PNW to add some fun to my camping and hiking activities.
An avid outdoorsman and overlander (https://www.overlandbound.com). I got into the amateur radio hobby to supplement my off road exploration and camping. I was mainly interested in trail cons, but quickly learned I love the radio hobby. Currently I am working on obtaining my Extra Class license and building a QRP rig for SOTA activations.
I am the President of the Grand Ronde Radio Amatuers (W7GRA) GRRA and the Northwest Director of Overland Bound.
I have an Icom IC7100 for not so remote activations, and am building a multi-band QRP radio for hiking into the more difficult peaks.
I've been an avid backpacker and hiker my whole life. I prefer to be outside whenever I can. I grew up in Southern California but have been moving further and further north with every chance I get.
Currently working for an environmental education center. But have a variety of jobs in and around national parks.
SOTA is the reason I got my tech Licence. I am hoping to get out into the Olympics as much as I can and think this is a great motivator to make it happen.
I am brand new to this but learning as much as I can. Currently on 2M only , but I am learning CW so I can get more reach as I gain experience.
Lover of the outdoors. Looking for more excuses to be out in them.
Interested in QSOs on 2m. Would like to eventually get into QRP ON 40M with CW.
Marine Corps Veteran who learned radios over 20's years ago, Nick is a new Ham who is excited to re-learn and play some radio outside.
I am new to SOTA. I plan to use my Xiegu G90 and Wolf River Coil antenna as well as my Yaesu FT3DR.
I’ve lived in California, Hawaii, Texas, Arizona, Oregon, and Idaho. I’m a geologist, a wanderer, and a serial hobbyist.
I’m a newly licensed ham. My main interest is in HF but I live in a noisy apartment so operating portable is my only option. I work for the Forest Service so SOTA is appeals to me greatly as I’m surrounded by and knowledgeable of never before activated summits. My kit is a KX2 and a random wire end fed antenna.
Portlander, new to radio and mainly getting into it just for SOTA.
All I have so far is a Yaesu FT-60 with an N9TAX Slim Jim. Once I'm more fluent in CW I'll buy a better rig. Zero activations so far; I figured I may as well set up an account here from the very beginning.
I had wanted to get involved with amateur radio for many years and finally took a class in November 2019 and passed the Technician and General tests. Got Amateur Extra in June 2020. Started with CWOPS training and looking forward to trying CW with SOTA.
Just getting started. Have been listening on weekends for SOTA activations.
Returning the hobby after 7 years. General class working on upgrading to Extra. Completely portable Station that will act as a base station as well.
Completely new to SOTA chasing and activating. Entry level in both categories.
